DropShifter Help Summary Sometimes we happen to meet the case in which we want to change "file type" name or "file creator" name. There have been many utilities to do this by checking a file one by one. But, this software "DropShifter" instantly execute the replacement by dragging and dropping files to itself. The number of object files may be one or plural. And the files are not touched except "file type" or "file creator", so if you change the type and then restore it to the original, you can get genuinely the same file. And besides, if you define the acceptable range to change type, reasonable files are automatically selected from many ones and are changed their types instantly. The rules to change types can be defined in the preference dialog of this software "DropShifter". The series of rules can be set within one hundred. Each series can be toggled to valid or invalid state. And the execution order can be replaced. Handling method 1. Double click "DropShifter". 2. Select "Preference" from "File" menu, and you can find the Preference Dialog. 3. Click the [New] button in the lower part of this dialog, then the Setting Dialog is opened. 4. In this dialog you must input the type names which you want to change. (see the illustration) 5. If you finished inputting, click [OK] button. Then the inputted rule is added to the table in the Preference Dialog. 6. You can handle the table. (see the illustration) 7. Select "Quit" from "File" menu. 8. Drag and drop the files to "DropShifter". 9. Only the files that match your rules are changed, then their icons are replaced accordingly. Execution rule In the Preference Dialog, if you select "Only first matching" in the "Rule" radio-button-group, the set is searched in the list from the top and the first found is adopted and the next search is omitted. (Ex.1) In case of [ A=>B, B=>C, C=>D ], 'A' becomes 'B'. (Ex.2) In case of [ A=>B, B=>C, A=>D ], 'A' becomes 'B'. If you select "Successive" in the "Rule", the list is successively estimated from the top. (Ex.1) In case of [ A=>B, B=>C, C=>D ], 'A' becomes 'D'. (Ex.2) In case of [ A=>B, B=>C, A=>D ], 'A' becomes 'C'. As the rules are different from the one in the DropShifter version 1.1.x, please take care. About "Filename compare" function If you check the "Filename compare" check-box in the Setting Dialog, you can input a string ( within 8 characters ) to compare with accepted filenames and can select { Include / Begin by / End by } popup-menu. The files which mismatch this string are to be excluded from replacement. If you leave the "Case sensitive" check-box unchecked, uppercase and lowercase letters are estimated to be the same. Caution If you don't know about file types and creators, it may be better not to use this program. And please understand that I cannot bear the responsibility for any disaster that may happen by changing types or creators. Be careful not to give rise to an accident by changing types or creators as you please. This program is expected to be able to accept dragging and dropping all files. But if you can't do that for some reason, try to rebuild desktop -- push command and option keys during restarting your computer. Gratitude I want to give special thanks to Mr. Yoshito Tada ( CQE03407@niftyserve.or.jp ) Mr. Koji Kobashi ( BYR06425@niftyserve.or.jp ) for willingly testing this program.
